Scope and content:

The Winnetka Women's Club Collection consists of record books containing minutes from the Executive Board, General Meetings, and the Garden Section of the Club proper. The minutes are primarily in longhand, and document the activities and proceedings of the Winnetka Women's Club. The collection consists of twenty minute books arranged into three series; Minutes of General Meetings (1922-1990), Minutes of Executive Board (1930-1990), and Minutes of the Garden Section (1937-1974).

Series I, Minutes of General Meetings, contains nine record books documenting the activities of the Winnetka Women's Club, formerly the Weeks Community Women's Club. The first record book contains the original constitution and by-laws of the organization. The series is arranged chronologically.

Series II, Minutes of the Executive Board, includes seven record books containing the minutes of meetings of the executive board of the organization. The series is arranged chronologically.

Series III, Minutes of the Garden Section, contains four record books that document the activities of the Garden Club Section such as guest speakers and arboretum field trips. The series is arranged chronologically.

Biographical / historical:

The Winnetka Women's Club was formed in December 1922 as the Ladies League of Little Landers. The organization later changed its name to the Weeks Community Women's Club, and finally to the Winnetka Women's Club on May 6, 1935. The minutes reveal a close-knit group whose members formed a bond of friendship and worked toward edification of the membership through guest speakers, programs, and special field trips. The club disganded in May 1990.
