Description
This collection primarily consists of various materials related to Apple Computer, Inc.'s sales history, including documents on establishing Apple dealers, selling strategies, reports on sales conference proceedings, correspondence with Apple dealers, and annual reports. Also included are Apple company bulletins, clippings, and memorabilia.
Background
Gene P. Carter was born in South Dakota in 1938. He studied electronics at Milwaukee School of Engineering and moved to California in the 1960s to take a job in marketing with Fairchild Semiconductor. He worked in marketing for National Semiconductor and eventually went on to work for Apple Computer in 1976 as Vice President of Sales when the company was still a small startup. While at Apple, he oversaw sales for their range of personal computers including Apple II, Apple III, and Apple Lisa, and had a part in the creation of the concept of the Apple Store. He left the company in 1984.
