- This collection was created by Special Collections to house materials relating to the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II. Materials include correspondence, artifacts, photo albums, family papers, and materials relating to the running of the relocation centers. Items of note include a collection of war correspondence written by a Japanese American soldier in the U.S. Army, camp governance papers from the Heart Mountain Relocation Center, and a softball signed by Tule Lake internee team members.

The focus of this collection is the acquisition of Japanese American incarceration materials that support the curriculum of The Claremont Colleges. Currently, the collection primarily includes materials relating to Japanese Americans during World War II, forced removal and incarceration, and life in the incarceration camps. To a lesser extent, research materials, educational resources, and materials related to Japanese Americans after World War II are included. See the notes included for individual items or groupings of materials for additional descriptive information and historical background. Growth is anticipated for this collection.

This is an artificial collection created by Special Collections of The Claremont Colleges Library to contain various singular and small groupings of materials related to Japanese American incarceration during World War II. The collection includes photographs and photo albums, correspondence, periodicals, newsletters, clippings, education and research materials, and artifacts.

- Materials acquired through various donations and purchases by Special Collections (2018, 2019, 2024).

Collection is processed at the folder and item level. Materials were housed in archival, acid-free folders and boxes. Staples and other metal fasteners were removed. Photographs were placed in protective mylar sleeves. Newspaper clippings were photocopied onto acid-free paper and originals discarded.
