Frederick Steele (1819 – 1868) was a career military officer in the United States Army, serving in the Mexican-American War, the Yuma War, and as a major general in the Union Army during the American Civil War. His papers, which are primarily correspondence and military orders, were donated by Catherine Steele (wife of William Frederick Steele, who was grandson of Isaac Steele and grandnephew of General Steele), who assembled them for her research.
