Frona Wait Colburn, 1859-ca. 1946, was a California journalist and was the first newspaper woman on the San Francisco EXAMINER. She also worked for the San Francisco CALL and the San Francisco CHRONICLE (this collection does not cover her newspaper days). Colburn was also an author, a lecturer and conducted a half-hour radio broadcast for ten months. Her subjects were literary and local authors and prominent people were included as guest subjects. She was the model for the heroine of Jack London's first novel, "A Daughter of the Snows." Among her accomplishments was the establishment of the San Francisco Book Fair. Her knowledge and contact with Bay area fine printers provided the nucleus of an ongoing activity.
