Biography
The Rusch and Volle families were pioneer residents of Citrus Heights, California.
According to family records, Ernest Heinrich Volle and his family emigrated to the United
States from Germany in 1846 and settled in Evansville, Illinois. In 1851 their son,
(August) Frederick W. Volle married Julia Dora Heimroth, a native of Elberfeld, Germany.
In 1853 Frederick and Julia journeyed to Sacramento, California by covered wagon. In 1858
they moved to Center Township (Citrus Heights, Calif.) and established a 480-acre ranch.
Herman H. Rusch emigrated from Prussia in 1868. In 1872 he married Louisa M. Volle in
Sacramento. In 1916 their children, Frederick Herman and Julia Matilda Rusch, inherited
320 acres from their grandmother, Julia Volle. In 1950 the Rusches donated 15 acres of
the land to establish Rusch Park.
