In addition, the collection contains some photocopies of typescript captions for photographs, galley and printers proofs, cuts and advertising material for MR. PULLMAN'S ELEGANT PALACE CAR. The letters in the collection are arranged in chronological order and contain both incoming and outgoing correspondence. The captions, proofs and advertising material follow the letters.

Biographical / historical:

Arthur Detmers Dubin (Mar. 14, 1923 - Octover 3, 2011), noted railroad historian and writer, is the author of SOME CLASSIC TRAINS (1964), MORE CLASSIC TRAINS (1974), and PULLMAN PAINT AND LETTERING NOTEBOOK: A GUIDE TO THE COLORS USED ON PULLMAN CARS FROM 1933 TO 1969 (1997). He is also a collector of Pullman and passenger train memorabilia.

Arthur Detmers Dubin was born in 1923 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of noted architect, Henry Dubin (1892–1963) and Anne (1893-1964). Dubin was educated at Lake Forest College and the University of Michigan (B. Arch., 1949). He began his architectural education at the University of Michigan in 1941 but was interrupted by World War II, and he served with distinction in the U.S. Army until 1946. After completing his studies in 1949, Dubin joined his father's and uncle's firm, Dubin and Dubin, as a second–generation architect in a Chicago family firm. With the addition of the prominent African-American architect John Moutoussamy in 1965, Dubin, Dubin, Black & Moutoussamy became the first major racially-integrated architectural practice in Chicago and one of the first such firms in the country. Dubin retired from the Chicago firm of Dubin, Dubin & Moutoussamy in 1993.

His knowledge of transportation was important in the firm's successful undertaking of projects for the Washington (D.C.) Metro, the Chicago & North Western Railway, the Chicago Transit Authority, and American Airlines. He has served on numerous advisory boards and commissions in passenger transportation.

Dubin was buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Virgina.
