The collection contains Shutes' correspondence, miscellaneous Lincoln reminiscences, Shutes' book accession records and a bound catalogue of his library. There is also a collection of various Lincoln -related pamphlets. A selection of Dr. Shutes' Lincolniana book collection has been cataloged and shelved in the library main stacks or the Holt-Atherton Special Collections and Archives Western Americana book stacks.

Biographical / historical:

A collection of pamphlets, letters, and published documents on President Lincoln's career, assassination, and legacy. It was collected and compiled by Dr. Milton H. Shutes (1883-1964), an amateur historian, physician and member of the University of California Student Health Service staff (1913-1945). Dr. Shutes published Lincoln and California (1943) and Lincoln and the doctors (1957).
