Abstract: Fletcher Bowron (1887-1968) was born in Poway, California. He served as mayor of Los Angeles for fifteen years (1938-53).
The collection consists of unedited transcripts of tape recorded interviews conducted by former Los Angeles Mayor Fletcher
Bowron for a UCLA oral history project, documenting the history of Los Angeles, ca. 1900-1940s.

Biography
Bowron was born August 13, 1887 in Poway, California; attended University of California at Berkeley (1907-09), University
of Southern California Law School (1909-11); admitted to California State Bar, 1917; executive secretary to governor of California
(1925-26); judge, Superior Court, Los Angeles (1926-38, 1956-62); elected mayor of Los Angeles in recall election, September
16, 1938; re-elected to three additional terms and served as mayor for a total fifteen years (1938-53); died September 11,
1968.
Scope and Content
Collection consists of unedited transcripts of tape recorded interviews conducted by former Los Angeles Mayor Fletcher Bowron
for a UCLA oral history project, documenting the history of Los Angeles, ca. 1900-1940s. Interviewees include Bowron, Dan
W. Green, John A. Grey, William B. Himrod, Don J. Kinsey, George A. Lewis, Harry F. Maidenberg, Milton Offner, Harold S. Ryerson,
and Gordon Whithall.
