Also includes the files of the Echo Lakes History Project, an oral history project sponsored by the Echo Lakes Association, which contain written responses to questionnaires, histories, and several studies regarding Echo Lakes. In addition, research done by Margaret Edith Trussell about streamflow maintenance dams in the Desolation Wilderness includes correspondence, writings and notes, and research materials for her in-depth study of fish conservation in the High Sierra wilderness.

The records of Echo Lakes Association consist of the organization's correspondence and other working files related to the concerns of cabin owners regarding a variety of environmental and safety matters. Also includes the files of the Echo Lakes History Project, an oral history project sponsored by the Echo Lakes Association, which contain written responses to questionnaires, histories, and several studies regarding Echo Lakes. In addition, research done by Margaret Edith Trussell about streamflow maintenance dams in the Desolation Wilderness includes correspondence, writings and notes, and research materials for her in-depth study of fish conservation in the High Sierra wilderness.

The Echo Lakes, two High Sierra alpine lakes, are located within the borders of the Eldorado National Forest which is administered by the Forest Service. The lakes are utilized by day users and cabin owners with lease agreements with the Forest Service. The Echo Lakes Association protects the interests of and unifies the cabin owners, and provides support for environmental control.

The collection has been divided into three series and arranged either chronologically (correspondence), alphabetically (subject files), or for ease of use (project and research files). Contents of folders reflect the order as received.

Acquisition information:
The Echo Lakes Association Records were given to The Bancroft Library by Margaret E. Trussell for the Echo Lakes History Project on February 27, 1989. Additions were made on March 22, 1990, by Mary Ann Fisher for the Echo Lakes Association.
