Biographical / historical:

In 1979, Keith Lingenfelter, a family history researcher from Red Bluff, California, gave Special Collections Department, Meriam Library, a large group of family records he had compiled. Among these records were nearly 50,000 names of the early immigrant families and individuals who lived in or near Tehama County (including some from Butte, Colusa, Shasta and Glenn) from before 1850 well into the mid twentieth century.

This compilation was begun as a class project at Shasta College in 1962. Keith continued to work on it until his death in 1984. Besides the genealogy of married and unmarried persons in Tehama County the collection contains source materials used in his research, such as cemetery records, probate records, newspaper clippings, a listing of marriages, death certificates, census records and other miscellaneous research.

Just before his death the collection was given to Special Collections, Meriam Library. Through a series of donations from Tehama County friends and family the genealogy sections (Boxes 1- 19) have been published in book form. They can also be found on the web at www.csuchico.edu/lbib/spc/lingenfelter
