Background

Biographical / historical:

The Union Sugar Company was organized under the laws of California on September 27, 1897. It owns a beet sugar factory at Betteravia, Santa Barbara County, California and about 14,000 acres of land. It leases about 3,000 acres besides and contracts for the produce from about 15,000 acres (1941 figures). It has additional income from oil wells on its property. The sugar factory at Betteravia was closed from 1927 to August 1934.
