The Gillis Family Papers consists of documents relating to the lives of various members of the family in Ohio. The collection also includes David T. Gillis' diary of his voyage to California (1852) and his patent for a grain header (1874).
- Biographical / historical:

The Thomas and John Gillis families lived in Kinsman, Trumbull County, Ohio from as early as 1809. Thomas' son David T. came via Panama to California (1852). David T. Gillis settled in northern San Joaquin County where he farmed wheat until his death (1888). Gillis patented a grain header in 1874.
