Biographical / historical:

The restoration of the California State Capitol began in 1972 as the result of an engineering study by the Office of the State Architect which indicated that the west wing was unsafe in the event of a moderate earthquake. The project began in March 1976 involving more than 2,000 workers. It took six years to complete at a cost of $67.8 million.
