This collection contains the papers of Antonio Heras, who was a professor of Spanish and Spanish Literature at USC from 1925-1950. Heras's papers include manuscripts and typescripts of his articles and stories, research notes, clippings, correspondence and diaries.

Background

Scope and content:

Collection contains manuscripts and typescripts of Antonio Heras's articles and stories, his research notes, diaries from him and his wife of their trip to Spain in 1932-1933, clippings, correspondence, and publications. Many documents include identification notes written by Evelyn Heras. Please refer to the Scope and Content notes of individual series for more information.

Biographical / historical:

Antonio Heras (1882-1964) was a Spanish educator, novelist, and poet. He taught Spanish and Spanish Literature at USC from 1925-1950, was the chair of the Spanish Department, and retired as an Emeritus Professor. After retiring, he also taught at UC Berkeley and Scripps College. He was a prolific writer whose books and articles were primarily published in Spain, although his wife Evelyn served as his English translator.

Acquisition information:
The Antonio Heras Papers were donated to USC by his widow, Evelyn Heras, between 1965 and 1971.
