Scope and content:

This collection comprises the publications from Campus and Environmental Planning at the University of California, Irvine. The collection includes minutes and agendas from Physical and Environmental Committee and the Resources Planning and Allocation Committee, as well as reports on the construction of campus buildings. The collection does not include publications from Design and Construction, which are shelved and described separately.

Biographical / historical:

Campus and Environmental Planning has primary responsibility for environmental and land-use planning at UCI. Services include providing planning analysis and consultation to campus administration through the Vice Chancellor of Administrative and Business Services, providing planning services to all campus organizations involved in physical development projects, and evaluating the siting and physical characteristics of all proposed campus facilities. Campus and Environmental Planning also identifies the potential environmental impact of proposed developments and participates in natural resource mitigation on campus.

Chronology
Date	Event
1963	Office of Planning and Design formed under the direction of the Vice Chancellor of Business and Finance.
1967	Office of Planning and Design becomes Office of Physical Planning and Construction.
1978	Physical Plant Department and Office of Physical Planning and Construction consolidated and renamed Facilities Management. Office includes Design and Construction and Maintenance and Operations.
1979	Budget and Physical Planning created and begins reporting directly to the Executive Vice Chancellor.
1984	Budget and Physical Planning renamed Resource Planning. Office includes Financial Planning and Physical Planning.
1986	Office of Physical Planning begins reporting to the Vice Chancellor of Administrative and Business Services. Resource Planning renamed Financial Planning Office, continues to report to the Executive Vice Chancellor.
1989	Office of Physical Planning reorganized into two distinct units: Design and Construction Services, and Capital and Environmental Planning. Both units begin reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Administrative and Business Services.
1990	Capital and Environmental Planning becomes Office of Campus and Environmental Planning.
