Background

Scope and content:

The collection contains examples of fine printing, proofs, prospectuses, articles, lists, bibliographies, catalogs, correspondence, and other material primarily relating to art and artists’ books in France, the work of Guillaume Apollinaire, Marc Chagall, Joan Miro, Pablo Picasso, and especially the avant-garde Russian artist and publisher Iliazd [born Ilia Zdanevich in Tiblisi, lived and died in Paris]. Also included are etchings and a manuscript book of Japanese drawings.

There are a number of fine press, artists' books, and other related monographs also donated by Anne Cushing, which have been cataloged separately and which may be searched on Pegasus, the UCSB Libraries online catalog. Some items, such as art exhibition catalogs, are housed in the UCSB Arts Library. An accompanying teaching slide collection was transferred to the Art History Department in 2002.

More detailed information about the contents and significance of items in the collection is contained in the appended list prepared by the donor.
