Background

Scope and content:

The Audible Stanford, a program of the Stanford Alumni Association, consists of Stanford lectures, seminars, panels, and conferences, recorded live on audio cassettes. The tapes are divided into the following subject areas: the individual and society (IS tapes), business and economics (BE tapes), literature and the arts (LA tapes), technology and science (TS tapes), history and politics (HP tapes), class day and graduation ceremonies (CG tapes), Centennial series (CN tapes), and the Jing Lyman Lecture series (JL tapes). Also included in this collection are tapes from the 1990 You Can Make a Difference Conference, co-ordinated by the Haas Center for Public Service.

The bulk of this collection has been arranged by catalog number; a copy of the Audible Stanford catalog is included with this guide. To find a particular tape, look first in the catalog (largely arranged by the subject areas mentioned above) and then consult the box list. Please note that this collection is not complete; missing tapes are indicated in the box list.

There are two other segments to the collection: tapes from annual fund meetings and tapes from a 1985 conference. These tapes were individually listed. Some of the tapes from the 1985 conference appear in the catalog; where possible, those catalog numbers are given in brackets.

Biographical / historical:

Founded in 1892 by the University's inaugural graduates, Stanford Alumni Association (SAA) orchestrates a wide spectrum of offerings and programming to provide support throughout individuals' Stanford journeys, encompassing their student years and subsequent lives as alumni.
