Background

Scope and content:

The collection consists of reports on national defense strategies primarily relating to cross-Strait tensions, international correspondence, speeches and writings, reports from the Legistlative Yuan, research on military strategies such as missile and submarine defense potentials, reports from the United States Department of Defense and the Ameirican Institute in Taiwan (AIT), biographical data from Tang's unpublished memoir, and newspaper clippings relating to Tang's political roles.

Biographical / historical:

Tang Fei 唐飛 (1932-), served as general for the ROC Air Force (1944-1999), as well as Taiwan's Chief of the General Staff (1998 March 5-1999 January 31), Minister of National Defense (1999 February 1-2000 May 19), and Premier of Taiwan (2000 May 20-2000 October 6). Tang was appointed Premier by Chen Shuibian 陳水扁 of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), but he resigned after only a few months.
