The scrapbook was compiled by Wylie and contains transcripts of diary entries, letters to and from family and friends, clippings and ephemera from his time in the Marine Corps. "Notes on an Island Invasion: Betio, Tarawa Atoll, November 21-29, 1943" is described by the author as "a record of what an enlisted man of no importance saw in the nine days he was involved in the Battle of Tarawa" and draws from Wylie's diary entries of November 1943. "Short Stories," "Two Children's Stories" and "Two Fables" are works of fiction. "Amores" and "Erotikon" are collections of Latin and Greek poetry, respectively, selected by Wylie. "Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam" is a transcript of a translation by Edward Fitzgerald and edited by Wylie.
