Mann, About Face: A History of America's Curious Relationship with China, from Nixon to Clinton (New York, 1999), Rise of the Vulcans: The History of Bush's War Cabinet (New York, 2004), and The Rebellion of Ronald Reagan: A History of the End of the Cold War (New York, 2009).

    Boxes 61-64 and Box 68 closed until 2030 July 1. Boxes 65-67 closed until 2033. Items in boxes MC29, HD21, and MC32 are closed until 2030 July 1 and 2040 June 1. Box FH10 may not be used without permission of the Archivist. The remainder of the collection is open for research; materials must be requested in advance via our reservation system. If there are audiovisual or digital media material in the collection, they must be reformatted before providing access.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    The Jim Mann papers include writings, notes, correspondence, interview recordings and transcripts, photocopies of government documents, internet printouts, and other printed matter related to American foreign relations with China, foreign policy during the presidential administration of Ronald Reagan, and foreign and military policy during the presidential administration of George W. Bush.
    The majority of the collection consists of research material for the books About Face: A History of America's Curious Relationship with China, from Nixon to Clinton (New York, 1999), Rise of the Vulcans: The History of Bush's War Cabinet (New York, 2004), and The Rebellion of Ronald Reagan: A History of the End of the Cold War (New York, 2009).
    As research for his books, Mann interviewed numerous government officials and political luminaries. His interview notes and transcripts can be found in the Interview File.
