The Jim Mann papers include writings, notes, correspondence, interview recordings and transcripts, photocopies of government documents, internet printouts, and other printed matter related to American foreign relations with China, foreign policy during the presidential administration of Ronald Reagan, and foreign and military policy during the presidential administration of George W. Bush.
The majority of the collection consists of research material for the books About Face: A History of America's Curious Relationship with China, from Nixon to Clinton (New York, 1999), Rise of the Vulcans: The History of Bush's War Cabinet (New York, 2004), and The Rebellion of Ronald Reagan: A History of the End of the Cold War (New York, 2009).
As research for his books, Mann interviewed numerous government officials and political luminaries. His interview notes and transcripts can be found in the Interview File.
