Biographical / historical:

Paul R. Ehrlich (1932-2026) was the Bing Professor of Population Studies, Emeritus. Ehrlich was an evolutionary and population biologist who gained worldwide attention for his 1968 book, The Population Bomb, which predicted dire consequences due to the rapidly increasing human population and advocated population control. He earned a degree in zoology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1953 and a master's and PhD in entomology from the University of Kansas in 1955 and 1957. In 1959 he began his career at Stanford, where he helped establish the Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve, the Center for Conservation Biology, and the Human Biology Program. Ehrlich authored over 700 scientific papers and articles and 30 books, and earned a number of awards and accolades.

Anne Ehrlich (1933-) is affiliated with the biology department and the Center for Conservation Biology at Stanford. Ehrlich co-authored 15 books with her husband, Paul Ehrlich, and also helped establish the Center for Conservation Biology.
