Scope and content:

John Steinbeck unknowingly wrote the story of his life in his personal correspondence to his friends and acquaintances. His wife, Elaine Steinbeck and his friend, Robert Wallsten, combined and edited his letters in chronological order to form the bulk of the book, Steinbeck--A Life in Letters, The Viking Press, New York, 1975.

This collection consists of the corrected typescript, galley proofs, and a few corrected proofs of the book.
