Abstract:
The Mission Viejo Library Collection contains a broad variety of images of the creation of the community and later city of Mission Viejo. Included in the resources are a large number of early community plans and new home brochures, as well as early Mission Viejo recreation activities and community events. Events like "The 4 days of Christmas" and St. Patrick's Day Parades along with images of many of the recreation centers and parks and Lake Mission Viejo are highlighted in the collection, as are sporting events such as a 1976 "Challenge of the Sexes" and 1984 Olympic events held in Mission Viejo. Additionally, examples of the advertising used to promote the community of Mission Viejo, including newspaper and billboard ads, are represented in the collection.

Acquisition information:
This collection was created by Mission Viejo Library staff, with assistance from the Mission Viejo Heritage Committee, from 2005-2008 as part of Local History Digital Resources Project grants from the California State Library.
Processing information:

These photographs, slide, brochures, and other original materials were assembled by the Mission Viejo Heritage Committee and the Mission Viejo Library, and digitized as part of an ongoing grant-supported project from October 2005 through June 2008 in order to provide a single access point to primary graphic resources documenting the history of Mission Viejo. It was supported by the California Digital Library under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.
