Background

Scope and content:

The collection contains mainly materials on the office of the Dean of Students, which later became part of the Office of Student Life. The Office of Student Life is a department of the Division of Student Affairs. Included are student handbooks, honor lists, reports, memorandums, programs and promotional materials, student organization files, and fraternity and sorority rush statistics and brochures.

Biographical / historical:

The staff of the Office of Student Life help students with a variety of issues and concerns that affect the quality of student life. They provide general assistance to students in problem solving and emergencies, addressing grievance issues, and offer referrals when necessary. When a personal or family crisis calls students away from campus, they process administrative withdrawals and petitions for incomplete grades. They provide educational programs on hate incidents and crimes, academic conduct, and the first-year experience. They are responsive to the needs and issues of students on campus and out in the Isla Vista community, and actively work with students and other departments to provide solutions to these problems.

The Office of Student Life also provides services for campus organizations' members and leaders including: facilities room scheduling, organization advising and consultation, leadership training and development, program planning and limited funding sources, fund raising, trustee accounts, publicity and promotion, fraternities and sororities, special projects and events, Nexus on Campus This Week Monday calendar, organizational development resource library, UCSB Campus Regulations Applying to Campus Activities, Organizations, and Students.
