Summary

Abstract:
This collection comprises printed materials, primarily dance programs and repertory booklets, documenting significant international dancers, dance companies, festivals, performances, and events. The bulk of this collection comprises materials on 20th century American and European ballet performers and companies, such as the American Ballet Theatre, the New York City Ballet, Ballet Russes and related companies. The collection also contains dance programs documenting world and folk genres, and international dance styles, primarily Indian, Japanese, and Spanish. A small group of printed ephemera documents various dance festivals, dance companies, and individuals such as Isadora Duncan, George Balanchine, Mary Wigman, and others.

This collection comprises printed materials, primarily dance programs and repertory booklets, documenting significant international dancers, dance companies, festivals, performances, and events. The bulk of this collection comprises materials on 20th century American and European ballet performers and companies, such as the American Ballet Theatre, the New York City Ballet, Ballet Russes and related companies. The collection also contains dance programs documenting world and folk genres, and international dance styles, primarily Indian, Japanese, and Spanish. A small group of printed ephemera documents various dance festivals, dance companies, and individuals such as Isadora Duncan, George Balanchine, Mary Wigman, and others.

Acquisition information:
This collection was created by UC Irvine Special Collections and Archives staff from a variety of performing arts collections in cases where the dance programs were tangential to the collection's focus, including the Eugene Loring Papers (MS-P02), Ruth Clark Lert Dance Library and Archive (MS-P09), and Clarence McGehee Collection on Ruth St. Denis (MS-P25). Sources and dates of acquisition are not known.
