Background

Scope and content:

The collection contains records of the USC School of Public Administration from its inception as the USC Institute of Government through 1996. Records include correspondence and other administrative documents, records of Institutes and other joint projects, contracts, faculty papers, and similar materials.

Particularly rich portions of the collection include those materials dealing with the Training of Trainers program as it evolved through various school contracts in the mid-twentieth century with the governments of Iran, Brazil, Turkey, and Pakistan. Grants, correspondence and training records are included.

Also, there are many valuable records relating to the various institutes hosted by the School of Public Administration and Institutes and Centers that involved several schools at USC. These include the Youth Studies Center, the Delinquency Control Institute, the Institute on Municipal Government, and many others.

Acquisition information:
Received by University Archives from the School of Public Administration.
Processing information:

Processed by John Howard Fowler, 2006-2007. Materials were kept in various offices in the School of Public Administration. An attempt to catalog Henry Reining's papers was apparently made in the 1970's--remnants of an archival listing are incorporated into the records. The records were ultimately brought into the archives circa 2003. The decision was made to leave them in their present housing and order. An inventory was created in 2006 that assigned numbers to the folders according to their relative position in each box. Whenever possible, the original file tab titles were used in this description. In 2007, the inventory was given a restructuring to make reference and research feasible.

This collection is not fully processed.
