Primarily letters from his former student Shonosuke Nakayama regarding his work as a government entomologist in Japan, meeting with other Stanford people in Japan, and other matters.

Biographical / historical:

Rennie Wilbur Doane (1871-1942) was an entomologist and professor at Stanford University from 1905 to 1936.In 1905 Doane first entered the faculty as instructor and curator in entomology. In 1920, entomology at Stanford was incorporated with the department of zoology and Mr. Doane was named associate professor. In 1926, he became full professor of zoology (entomology) and continued in this position until 1937, when he retired as emeritus professor.
