Abstract: Paul Albert Dodd (1902-1992) was a professor of economics (1932-61), director of the Institute of Industrial Relations (1945-47),
dean of the College of Letters and Science (1946-61), acting vice chancellor (1959-60), and professor emeritus (1961) at UCLA.
He also served as president of San Francisco State University (1962-66), was a member of the Governor's Committee on Health
Insurance (1939-40), and an arbitrator in various industrial disputes. During World War II, he served on the National War
Labor Board, and as chair of the President's Emergency Railway Labor Board. Boxes 1-71 of the collection include correspondence,
reports, and printed materials relating to Dr. Paul Dodd's career at the University of California.

Dodd was born on July 26, 1902 in Greenwood, Missouri; AB, Park College, 1924; Ph.D, University of Pennsylvania, 1932; LLD,
Park College, 1950; instructor, University of Pennsylvania, 1927-28; associate, UCLA, 1928-30; Harrison Fellow, University
of Pennsylvania, 1930-31; assistant professor of economics (1932-38), associate professor (1939-45), director, Institute of
Industrial Relations (1945-47), professor (1945-61), dean, College of Letters and Science (1946-61), acting vice chancellor
(1959-60), and in 1961 professor emeritus, UCLA; president, San Francisco State University (1962-66); member, Governor's Committee
on Health Insurance, 1939-40; arbitrator in various industrial disputes; during World War II, served on the National War Labor
Board, and as chair of the President's Emergency Railway Labor Board; published works include
Financial policies in the aviation industry (1933) and (with E.F. Penrose)
Economic aspects of medical services (1939); he died on August 22, 1992 in Boulder, Colorado.
Scope and Content
Boxes 1-71 of the collection include correspondence, reports, and printed materials relating to Dr. Paul Dodd's career at
the University of California. Includes files relating to his Academic Senate Committee activities while at UCLA in the 1950s,
a faculty salary survey for UC, the President's Office of San Francisco State, 1962-63, the Academic Senate Committee on Retirement
in the 1950s, and the Ford Faculty Fellowship Committee, 1950-54.
