Scope and content:

The collection includes membership directories, newsletters, project files, program materials, correspondence, administrative files, anniversary materials, photographs, and a scrapbook. Of particular note in the collection are Recycling Project materials covering the first recycling center on the Peninsula started by the AAUW Palos Verdes Peninsula Branch.

Biographical / historical:

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is a nationwide philanthropic network of over 1,000 local branches in the United States whose membership is composed of college graduates. The mission of AAUW is "advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research." AAUW local branches focus on community projects and programs, funding fellowships and grants, and promoting science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education for girls.

The AAUW โ€“ Palos Verdes Branch was founded in 1957 initially as the AAUW โ€“ Rolling Hills Branch with 63 members. The branch became the Palos Verdes Peninsula Branch in December 1975.

In addition to education programming, AAUW Palos Verdes Peninsula Branch is involved in community wide projects including the first recycle center on the Peninsula, programming addressing domestic violence, and senior housing and aging in place.
