Scope and content:

This collection contains sound recording research files compiled by William R. Moran, a discographer of early sound recordings, author, geologist, and Stanford alumnus. These files consist of two parts. The first portion is annotated photocopies of Victor Talking Machine Company and RCA Victor Division ledgers with matrix listings accumulated during the research for the 'Encyclopedic Discography of Victor Recordings', authored by Moran and Ted Fagan. The second portion is a handwritten inventory organized by individual record labels of shellac discs held by the Stanford Archive of Recorded Sound.

Stanford Archive of Recorded Sound has a large number of sound recordings donated by Moran, some of which are now in the William R. Moran Sound Recordings Collection (ARS.0075).
