The collection comprises administrative records, fundraising documents, photographs of events, posters, commendations, DVDs, CDs, and other materials, 1987-2017, from former executive director of Shanti Orange County, Sarah Kasman. Shanti Orange County offers services for people living with chronic disease, including HIV/AIDS. Services include mental health therapy, case management, and connection to community resources such as transportation, housing, financial aid, medical and pharmacy resources.

This collection contains a book that was written about the passing of a woman's husband as a result of HIV/AIDS. There are also organizational reports on the foundation and rosters of the board of directors. Photos of events such as the HIV/AIDS Walk and other events are present. There are also articles of incorporation, commendations and award certificates honoring Shanti OC. Fundraising fliers, financial reports, and Sarah Kasman's speeches can all be found within the collection.

Biographical / historical:

Sarah Kasman began with Shanti Orange County in 1991, and she served as executive director of the organization for 24 years.

Charles Garfield founded Shanti in San Francisco in 1974, with locations later popping up in areas like Los Angeles and Orange County. Shanti means "inner peace" in Sanskrit, and it is used to describe the model of volunteerism which provides emotional support and assistance to people with life threatening illnesses.

Shanti Orange County helps more than 1,200 men, women, and families in Orange County infected or affected by HIV/AIDS each year. Shanti OC offers services for people living with chronic disease, including HIV/AIDS. Services include mental health therapy (individual, couples, or group), case management, and connection to community resources such as transportation, housing, financial aid, medical and pharmacy resources. It also offers extensive educational seminars specializing in a variety of topics related to living with chronic diseases including HIV/AIDS.
