- The collection consists of newsletters, printed ephemera, correspondence, programs and miscellaneous other publications created by and for the library and prisoners at San Quentin prison. Margaret Cressaty was a medical librarian based on Southern California. At the time this collection was created, she was the Librarian at the College of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons in Los Angeles. Her correspondent was Herman K. Spector, at that time the Librarian at San Quentin prison. The two began a correspondence in 1958 when Spector requested a copy of an article on medical librarianship written by Cressaty. It appears that Spector then sent Cressaty a variety of publications and ephemera created by and for the library and prisoners at San Quentin.
