Background

Scope and content:

The Anatolii Gladilin papers document the life and work of human rights activist, writer, and Soviet dissident Anatolii Gladilin through his writings, interviews, correspondence, photographs, and video and sound recordings. The collection includes radio broadcast transcripts, and working papers, relating to Radio Liberty and Radio Free Europe broadcasting to the audiences in the Soviet Union. Of special interest are correspondence, photographs, and broadcast transcripts relating to the Soviet dissident movement.

Biographical / historical:

Anatoliĭ Gladilin (1935-2018) was a Soviet writer who emigrated from the Soviet Union in 1976. He settled in Paris, where he continued to write and also worked for RFE/RL (Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty) and Deutsche Welle, a Germany-headquartered broadcasting company.
