Background

Scope and content:

This is a one box collection measuring 16 ½ x 17 ¼ x 3 ¼ inches. The majority of this collection consists of photographs, but there is also a large Lunar Module Manual. Most of the photographs are group pictures, presentations, or awards, but there are also photographs of the White Sands Missile Range facility, as well as a few drawings and well-wishing signatures. The photographs and autographed papers continue to be organized in its original form.

Additional artifacts – pins, cuff links, and medals – are maintained in the curatorial department.

Biographical / historical:

Roy Standefer, born in Lubbock, Texas in 1924, was enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December 1941, and was released in December, 1945. He was a Grumman Aerospae engineer in Bethpage, New York and White Sands, New Mexico, from 1960 to 1972. He was also the assistant Program Director for S/CAT (Spacecraft Assembly and Test).

Standefer passed away on August 17, 1984
