Scope and content:

The materials consist of audiorecordings of medical case analyses, administrative records, meeting minutes, newsletters, and administrative correspondence.

Biographical / historical:

The origins of the hospital trace back to the establishment of the Stanford Home for Convalescent Children in 1911. With the relocation of the Stanford Medical School to the south from San Francisco in 1959, the foundation of Stanford Hospital followed, initially co-owned with Palo Alto, named the Palo Alto-Stanford Hospital Center. In 1968, the university assumed ownership, leading to its renaming.

Comprising Stanford Health Care and Stanford Children's Health, the complex is referred to as Stanford University Medical Center. It consistently attains high rankings among hospitals in the United States, notably serving as a teaching institution for Stanford University School of Medicine.
