Abstract:

The collection on the University of California, Irvine Black Alumni Chapter contains memorabilia, photographs, newspapers, and clippings regarding the history of University of California, Irvine and the Black Alumni Chapter. It includes an array of materials accumulated by John Elston and the UCI Black Alumni Chapter related to student life in the first few years of the UCI campus, including the sign-in sheet from the first black alumni reunion, held in 1993 in Mesa court, with approximately 70+ signatures; UCI alumni reunion program from 2016; and a copy of the program from a going away celebration for Vice Chancellor Thomas Parham hosted by UCIBAC at the Reef restaurant in Long Beach (of special significance is that all of the African American presidents from the CSU system were present for Dr. Parham). Materials date from 1965 to 2018.
