Iain Elliot was director of Radio Liberty (RL); Elisabeth Robson-Elliot was the former Head of the BBC Russian Service. The collection includes VHS tapes of Soviet and post-Soviet TV news, many of NTV, the first Russian independent TV station. Also includes documents related to election monitoring.

Background

Scope and content:

This collection includes material on Radio Liberty, election monitoring in the USSR, and VHS tapes of Soviet and post-Soviet TV news (many of NTV, the first Russian independent TV station), later taken over by a pro-Putin oligarch and completely overhauled.

Biographical / historical:

Iain Elliot was the former Associate Director of Radio Liberty and former Deputy Director of the RFE/RL Research Institute. Elisabeth Robson-Elliot was the former Head of the BBC Russian Service.
