Correspondence, flyers, newsletters, press releases, notes, facility reports, grant proposals, facility permitting documents, rehabilitation facility regulations, questionnaire, contractual agreements, clippings, organization charts, financial documents, meeting minutes, board of directors bylaws, tax documents, and other materials documenting the establishment and operation of Van Ness Recovery House, "a temporary home for gay men and lesbians engaged in recovery from alcohol and drug abuse," 1972-1984. The bulk of the collection documents the process of meeting municipal, state, and federal regulations and requirements, as well as securing funding for the establishment of an alcohol and drug abuse recovery program.

Biographical / historical:

Located in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles, Van Ness Recovery House was established under the auspices of the Gay Community Services Center in 1973 as a temporary residential facility for gay men and lesbians engaged in recovery from alcohol and drug abuse.
