Artifical collection of photographs of American Indians. Series 1 contains the original collection, assembled by Mary Sheldon Barnes in the 1890s for use in her history classes. Some images may have been taken by her, and other prints may have been added later. Series 2 contains ethnographic photographs from the Southwest taken by John K. Hillers in the 1870s and 80s. These are copy prints given to Stanford by the Smithsonian and cataloged sometime probably before 1950. Series 3 contains other images from uncataloged holdings.
