Scope and content:: This collection primarily contains secondary materials about the North American Berdache and contemporary LGBT American Indians assembled by Gay American Indians (GAI) co-founder Randy Burns. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence, agendas, conference papers and critiques from sessions of "Revisiting the 'North American Berdache' Empirically and Theoretically," at the Annual Meeting of the American Anthropological Association and two Werner-Gren Conferences from 1993 and 1994. There are also reprints of a questionnaire, academic articles and a book about AIDS in Indian Country, as well as gender and sexuality among contemporary American Indians. There are a few primary documents, including flyers for the Second Annual Gathering of American Indian Gays and Lesbians (1989) and a lecture on Zuni History by Will Roscoe (1987).
