- Monica (Monnie) Worsley Bayley (1919-2002) was an author, editor and researcher who published cookbooks about Africa, the South Pacific, and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. In 1940, she graduated with honors from Lawrence College in Appleton, WI and married Lawrence classmate, Edwin R. Bayley, in 1941. In the 1960s, she held posts in research and publications in Washington, D.C. and as a copy editor at McGraw-Hill Book Co. in NY. The Bayleys moved to Berkeley in 1969, when Edwin became the founding dean of the U.C.-Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. Her complete works include: Black Africa Cookbook (1971), Pacific Island Cookbook (1977), The Snoopy Omnibus (1983), and annual Snoopy Fun Fact Calendars, and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz Cookbook (1981). This collection contains materials related to Monica Bayley’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz Cookbook including: a scrapbook with reviews, catalogs, and handwritten letters related to the cookbook, mechanicals for the book including pages 1-128 of the cookbook, page overlays with the original The Wonderful Wizard of Oz illustrations, and a letter from Macmillan Publishing.
