Scope and content:

The collection includes slides of the Gerry/Richelieu Bakery alongside photograph of the Laursen, Gerry, and Emshoff families. The collection also includes school photographs and a drawing by Peter Laursen's son, Thomas Laursen. There is also a "Brides Cookbook" alongside some various documents related to the families in this collection.

Biographical / historical:

Peter C. Laursen was born to Jens and Marianne Laursen in Denmark on January 5, 1884. He died in Pasadena, California on August 18, 1965 at the Orange Grove Rest Home. After receiving his Baker’s License in Denmark, Peter came to Pasadena around 1915 and worked as a baker for Frank Gerry at the Gerry Bakery, 1276 No. Fair Oaks, Pasadena, California. Peter married Ethel Gerry, daughter of Frank Gerry and Emma Emhoff Gerry. On the death of Frank Gerry, Peter took over the Gerry Bakery and changed the name to the Gerry/Richelieu Bakery. Ethel and Peter resided at 241 North Wilson Avenue where they had two sons, Thomas Peter Laurnsen and Walter Laursen.
