    Abstract: This collection contains two V-mail correspondence from two service members writing to Edgar R. Howard and Virginia Phillips. Virginia Phillips' cousin, S 2/c Raymond Bascom, USNR wrote a V-mail to her dated September 20, 1943. Edgar R. Howard's college friend, Cpl. Harry R. Hooper, USAAF wrote a V-mail to him dated December 20, 1944.

    Biographical / Historical

    Edgar Randall Howard and Virginia Joy Phillips were married during the war on June 11, 1944. Edgar was attending Washington Missionary College in Takoma Park, Maryland in December when he received this letter from his college friend, Corporal Harry Ralston Hooper, United States Army Air Force (6/13/1917 - 2/26/2003).
    Cpl. Hooper was born in Davidson, Tennessee and served with 1347 Army Air Forces Base Unit (India-China Division)(Air Transport Command) in several locations including Shamshernagar, India in the China-India-Burma Theater. He deployed in October 1944 and served with the "medical department" according to his letter. He married in 1946 and passed away in Collegedale, TN in 2003.
    Seaman Second Class Raymond J. Bascom, United States Navy Reserve (11/23/1924 - 1/11/1995) was born in Guthrie, Iowa and was a cousin of Virginia. He enlisted in the US Navy on April 24, 1943 and served aboard the escort carrier USS Breton (CVE-23), two months at sea when he wrote his letter to Virginia. He married Alice Lynn Goad in 1951 and passed away in Fort Worth, Texas in 1995.

    This collection contains two V-mail correspondence from two service members writing to Edgar R. Howard and Virginia Phillips. Virginia Phillips' cousin, S 2/c Raymond Bascom, USNR wrote a V-mail to her dated September 20, 1943. Edgar R. Howard's college friend, Cpl. Harry R. Hooper, USAAF wrote a V-mail to him dated December 20, 1944.
    In Hooper's V-mail, signed "Ralston," he asks Howard how he's liking married life.
