The material in the Jeffrey "Jeff" Root Collection mainly consists of documents and correspondence from Southern Pacific's Passenger Traffic Department. Jeff Root was assistant chief clerk in this operating department in the 1980s. He was interested in Southern Pacific passenger traffic service, and its decline due to increasing financial losses. The focus of Mr. Root's collection is on Southern Pacific's attempts to secure regulatory authority to discontinue its passenger train service in the 1960s and early 1970s.
