Scope and content:: The bulk of the collection comprises questionnaires and code sheets documenting the experience of gay and lesbian workers, sponsored by the Lavender & Red Union. The survey was conducted at the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds in Pomona, CA, during the Los Angeles County Fairs in 1976 and 1977. The collection also includes other materials related to labor unions and workers' rights issues.
Biographical / historical:: The Gay Workers Survey Project was started in 1976 by the Lavender & Red Union as the initial research in a larger "strategy to reach and to organize Gay people at their workplaces." Questionnaires were handed out during the Los Angeles County Fairs in 1976 and 1977 to LGBT workers in order to identify the situation and needs of gay and lesbian workers on the job.
