Vick Knight Jr. was an educator and author whose writings about wine focused on the Temecula wine region. The collection includes copies of his wine columns for the Riverside Press Enterprise and recordings of his television show Knight at Large. Scope and content:

The collection contains materials related to the Temecula wine industry, including published and draft versions of Vick Knight Jr's. Riverside Press-Enterprise columns; wine labels; wine pamphlets; wine calendars; wine catalogs, and episodes of a television show that Knight hosted called Knight at Large. There are also two empty bottles used for Knight's homemade wines.

Biographical / historical:

Vick Knight Jr. was an educator, author. and newspaper columnist whose writings about wine focused on the Temecula wine industry. Knight was born on April 6, 1928 in Lakewood, Ohio to composer and advertising executive Vick Knight Sr. and Janice Knight.

Knight served in the United States Navy before earning his bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California (USC) in 1952. He later obtained a master's degree from what is now California State University, Los Angeles in 1958 and a doctor of education degree from California Coast University in 1991. Knight began teaching in 1952. He worked at schools in various cities in California, including Pico Rivera and Yorba Linda. Knight also was a school principal and served on the Riverside County Board of Education and the Lake Elsinore Unified School District board. A public library in Lake Elsinore is named after Knight.

In 1990, Knight began writing columns for the Riverside Press-Enterprise. He also was the author of a book on wine, Toasting Temecula Wines, which was released in 1996.

In addition to writing about wine, Knight was an amateur winemaker who won multiple awards for his winemaking, including a gold medal at the 1987 Orange County Fair wine competition and first place in the 1988 Los Angeles County Fair homemade wine competition.

Knight Jr. died on December 5, 2013 in Canyon Lake, California. He was 85 years old.

Vick Knight Jr. donated the collection to California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in 2000.
