A coverage of two topics from the extensive historical research conducted by Sitton throughout a career spanning fifty-plus years. Research notes and publications about the Boys Republic. The Boys Republic is a private, nonprofit, nonsectarian school and treatment community for troubled youngsters. (Description from their website.) Research notes and publications about the California good roads movement, particularly the construct of rural cement highway markers. Also image slides and copy prints of cement markers taken in 1985.

Sitton was a member of the History curatorial team at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County from 1974 to 2006. One of his first projects was heading the survey of Los Angeles County historic sites. This resulted in eighteen nominations written for the National Register of Historic Places, and the Museum reaped the benefit when the 1913 building and its grounds were added to the National Register on March 4, 1975. In his career, he authored five books; he co-authored or edited an additional four books. His focus was the political and social history of Los Angeles and Southern California.
