This collection comprises photographs, transparencies, negatives, contact sheets, and ephemera related to Bonnie Laurie Russell's involvement in women's and lesbian softball teams, including the Advertisement League's Headliners and the lesbian team, the Cracker Jacks. Russell (1943-2018), a lesbian photographer, graphic designer, and dedicated softball player, documented these teams and played a key role in their activities from 1976 to 1986.

Scope and content:

This collection consists of photographs, transparencies, negatives, and contact sheets of the women's softball teams that Bonnie Laurie Russell played in. Russell photographed her Advertisement League's Women's Softball team, the Headliners (1977-1980), and her lesbian team, The Cracker Jacks (1978-1980). Russell's collection also includes ephemera, newspaper clippings, tournament programs, and team information from both teams. Additionally, the collection includes Cracker Jacks t-shirts and socks.

Biographical / historical:

Bonnie Laurie Russell (1943-2018) was a lesbian photographer, graphic designer, and avid softball player who photographed and documented her women's and lesbian softball teams. Russell was integral to her teams and was even invited to the 1978 Ad League Women's All-Star team.

The collection is UNPROCESSED. The collection is available for use during San Francisco History Center hours, with photographs available during Photo Desk hours. Collections that are stored offsite should be requested 48 hours in advance.
